The Desperate Homeowners - Or How Not To Hire A Contractor

One of the greatest errors householders do is putting themselves in a place where they experience they must engage the first contractor who go backs their telephone phone call when they have got got a place project.

Here is how it all starts: Mr. and Ms. Homeowner have called and left messages with 10 different contractors and not one of them have had the courtesy to pick up the phone and call them back to state "Sorry, but I am too busy to assist you at this time."

Finally, a contractor phone calls them back and is interested in their project. The householder is excited and the meeting with the contractor travels well. He gives them an estimate. It looks expensive but at least the contractor returned the phone call and looks like a good person. Not wanting to detain the undertaking any longer, the householders mark a contract, manus over a deposit, and are told that work will get soon.

Becoming "Desperate Homeowners" have taken over the heads of these good people...and that is asking for trouble! They are now at the clemency of the contractor who they trust will demo up and make a good job.

What did they make wrong? Lots-here is a little sampling.

(1) They only got one estimate-tough to compare terms and contractors!

(2) They never asked for or received any references-is this contractor as good as he states he is?
(3) They signed a contract they trust was legal and will protect them-why didn't the contractor give us a copy?

(4) They never screened the contractor-he looks like a good person!

(5) They never got a day of the month in authorship when the undertaking would start-soon is better than nothing-right?

(6) They received no cogent evidence of coverage or licenses-he must have got coverage and a license...why would he/she take a chance-right?

Believe me, it is not the contractor that is taking a chance. This all came about because the householder did not properly plan their project. They became despairing and, most importantly, lost their PATIENCE. Unfortunately, this haps all the time.

Planning, forbearance and getting to cognize any contractor that you are considering to engage volition aid maintain you out of trouble-try it!
